Thanks Martin, you're a life saver and I'll try to enjoy Greece 🇬🇷 although I have other problems which you wouldn't be able to solve, the holiday is with Thomas Cook, getting home I suspect will be a bit of a challenge.
But thanks again and your help was fantastic and I'll click on the box that says your advice solved the problem.
Take care
Ray.
Hi @Sascom, that sounds a bit strange.
Do you receive any kind of error message from the phone app when you try to make a call?As roaming for calls is enabled by default due to the necessity of access to emergency numbers, i do not believe that this behaviour is caused by the phone. Have you been in contact with your service provider to see if they have any solution to this?
Please get back to me with this information and I will do my best to assist you!
Hi Martin
I appreciate your help, no there are no error messages, I try to make a call and within seconds, the screen says call ended, I've been in touch with plusnet via chat messages and they have said the usual things, we are not responsible for masts in crete, try turning the phone off, try putting the phone in airplane mode for 5 minutes etc.
Nothing worked although yesterday I was able to Call my voicemail message and after that went back to not being able to call anyone, very strange !
If you have any other suggestions, I would be grateful
Regards
Ray.
Thank you @Sascom for your quick reply!
Just to clarify, are you able to acces the internet on your phone, for example to use apps or a browser? As you may know, your service provider in the UK is supposed to have a roaming partner in Greece to whoms network you are supposed to be connected to when you are there. Have you checked whether you are connected to the correct network or not? To do this, find and tap Setttings > More > Mobile network > Network operators.
Keep me posted with the results!
Yes I can use WiFi receive and send emails, receive texts but not the phone, I'm connected to GR COSMOTEL/plusnet, I assume that this is their partner , although I have tried to access network operator and cannot access this, the timer just goes on and on.
I have to admit, I'm rubbish with this kind of thing, I also called at the Cosmotel shop and all that they could suggest was to call Plusnet, which I can't.
Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks
Ray.
Thank you @Sascom for the information!
I am sorry if my previous reply was a bit ambiguous, The fact that you are able to access WiFi is great, however I am more interested in whether you are able to access the internet using your mobile data or not.
Another thing that you can try is to change the preferred network type to see if the calls work better with a better network type. To do this, find and tap Settings > More > Mobile network > Preferred network type. Normally, this setting is set to 4G (Preferred)/3G/GSM. try setting it to 3G (preferred)/GSM.
Let me know how it goes!
No please, I don't think that at all, I really appreciate your help.
I don't know exactly how I access the Internet, I just tap Google and my email via the shortcut on the home screen.
If I opted for 3g as opposed to 4g, would this revert back when I'm back in the UK ?
Cheers
Ray.
I see, @Sascom. Thank you for the clarification!
And are you able to access Google and your mail no matter where you are or are you only able to access these functions while connected to a wifi?
Of you enter 3G (Preferred) you will have to switch it back to 4G (Preferred) once you are back in the UK.
This question confuses me a little, I can access Google and my hotmail on my plusnet allowance and also if I sit in a cafe or bar and log into their WiFi.
Does that make sense ?
Basically I seem to be able to use the Internet anywhere.
Do you think that the problem could be that there is no phone signal in my area, everyone else in the hotel doesn't seem to have my problem, although they are probably on other networks.
I understand that it is a bit confusing, @Sascom. Have you been able to try switching over to 3G (Preferred)/GSM and if so, were you able to place a call or did the behaviour persist?
