Hello everyone,
I have a question about iPhone iOS updates. Why is it that when I update my iPhone's iOS in the UK, it installs the same version as when I update it in Japan or the USA? On the other hand, with Sony firmware, the versions seem to be restricted by region—for example, version 024 in the UK and version 026 in the USA and Japan.
Any ideas ??? !
Hi @DVD00999 Perhaps, because cell phone signals are global and TV signals have, I believe four different standards through out the world. For example, USA has ATSC and Europe (and Africa) has DVB-T for Digital Television broadcasts. There's also ISDB-T Japan, South America and parts of Africa and DTMB in China.

Thank you, Lightfoot.
The map is helpful! 👍
It's curious that Sony has both firmware versions 024 and 026—why not just standardize it as 024 to avoid confusing users?
I had someone inspect the Blu-ray player, and they confirmed it's in good condition. I also updated the firmware, which I had done before checking the laser with version 024, but unfortunately, the Blu-ray discs still aren't playing. It seems like the best option might be to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
If you had someone check out your Blu Ray player and they said it was OK, but it still does not play
Blu Ray discs then they are not to be trusted.
As I pointed out in a previous post in an earlier question you posted the 026 update is on the Sony US site and not the Sony UK/ Europe site, there are probably different standards applied to different countries and/ or regions.
The update to 026 is only for the US market and probably does not contain any improvements for the UK/ European market models.
Yours is an ancient model of Blu Ray player so you may as well buy a newer model seeing as they are about the same price as a tin of soup these days.
As for comparing Sony firmware updates for Blu Ray players to Apple iPhone iOS updates well really!!
Apple iOS updates will have country/ region specific updates and legal requirements and those updates will be handled via Apples own country/ region specific servers and named under the worldwide version number/ name.
I pass your comments onto the Sony dealer where I took the blue ray.
I suspect he say really !
