Hi
Pardon me if this has been asked before, i could not find it in the forum. I am wondering if anyone has any news on whether the Apple ios will be able to import my handycam avchd or standard video files. End user need... traveling, want to bring the ipad and camera, but not my laptop. Would be really great to view the movies on the cruise through the ipad without having to convert on a laptop first.
thanks in advance for any insight.

UNfortunatly, you are dealing with iDevices...you're stuck with it! 😞
AVCHD is the official Format of HD video Camera and is not even supported on iMovie...so direct play with Ipad will never happen.
You better request that on Apple forum than here though
Hello bcolyear - welcome to the Sony Forums
This is indeed frustrating for owners of Apple devices. Recently, I have started using CineXPlayer on my iPad to increase the range of playable videos on the tablet. I find that this handles a lot more than the native video player on the iPad so you may wish to experiment with this app.
Having said this, the actual file transfer process for iPad nearly always needs to be carried out using a PC or Laptop. The advice about suggesting this on the apple forums is spot on
Thanks,
Simon
It's better to convert your sony handycam avchd videos to mov/m4v format for further playback with iPad, and then sync the converted output videos to ipad via itunes.
