I have an old handycam camera and would like to transfer all the old video onto my pc. The camera doesn't seem to work so I don't know if I would need to get another camera and cables to transfer it over or is there a separate player you can buy that will transfer it over??

as far as I know the tr55 uses the old video 8 format - which is outdated and no current camera supports this.
I would look for a video 8 player on second hand market. Make sure it has video out so you can grab the video to the PC.
Something like this one:

If you have only some tapes you can also search for service providers which have specialised in digitizing (burn to DVD) old movie format.

Sometimes, it depends on what type of video you are trying to transfer.
