I have recently bought an HDR XR160E camcorder and when editing in iMovie, the import settings require that the capture is 1080i maximum ...
Actually, I would like to capture in 720p but I cannot work out from the instruction manual how this setting is changed on the device - there are plenty of options for best, FX etc. but none seem to relate to the industry standard terms and therefore it's tricky to ensure the correct settings.
Any advice please?

As you will see on page 38 of the manual .....

..... it is only possible to record in 1080i on this camcorder. The actual movie quality can be changed in terms of the total number of available pixels but the output of 1080i will always remain the same.
