Sony KD-49XF8796 won’t update software

Hi,

hopkng that someone can help. About a month ago randomly my tv stopped waking up my Samsung soundbar which is connected via hdmi to the tv’s ARC port. Before this the sound bar had bee working great since I. Bought the tv last year.

After googling round a bit I found this article on the Sony website https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00223423 which mentioned an issue discovered with ARC post the android oreo update. I proceeded to click through to this article (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/downloads/00016211) where my tv model (KD-49XF8796) was listed was listed as being an applicable model.

I was hopeful this would solve it as I checked my tv and the current software version was PKG6.5629.0177EUA so seemed due the upgrade. However I have now tried countless times to update the software by navigating to the system software update option on the help menu and clicking “check for a system software update”. However each time I am met with the same message telling me “your software is up to date”.

I cant really understand this as this message seems in direct contradiction to the article I have referenced above. All connectivity works on my tv still (streaming Netflix etc) so this should not be anything to do with the tv not being able to obtain the update.

Please could someone help, driving me nuts now 🙁

thanks

Dave

The roll out of the software is staggered and I believe its been a very slow rollout, it might even be stalled at the moment. If you absolutely must have the update, download the file to a USB drive and install manually.

In the link you posted, there is a route to download it manually. There should also be instructions there. See for download link and instructions.

Thanks for the response, I didn’t fancy the hassle of going down the usb route, feels very old Skool. I can understand a staged rollout for Sony pushing the update to client devices automatically. However when it comes to customers requesting the update it should just consume it.

Very frustrating that they dont include a schedule or advise that not everyone is going to be able to get the update yet. At the moment my sound bar is just a decorative piece of plastic 🤨
