Sony Bravia 55 inch OLED TV power cable

I've just bought a Sony Bravia 55 inch OLED TV which I want to wall mount. I need to replace the power cable as the one supplied is not long enough to reach the power outlet. My problem is, don't laugh, I can't get the old cable out. Seriously is there some trick to removing these? I contacted Sony UK and they said that yes the cable does come out and they sent some silly diagram. I have no idea what the diagram is supposed to show! I've tried pulling it with no joy. I've tried pushing it from side to side and up and down and pulling it with no joy. I've even tried pulling it with pliers, still no joy. This is a £1400 TV so the last thing I want to do is damage it so can someone tell me how to get this cable out? IMG_5360.jpg

This is the message I'm getting from folks here and it's what I'm thinking otherwise why would it come attached. However I contacted Sony UK again and got this reply today. Bear in mind I gave them the exact model number and serial number.

Thank you for your recent email.

We apologize for any unintended inconvenience that this has caused to yourself.

We can confirm that the power cord can be removed from the TV. However, if it does not come out easily, we recommend to be very careful as to not cause any physical damage.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Yours sincerely,

Nour

I have contacted them again telling them that saying it can be removed is not much use unless they can tell me how to remove it! So I have sent them a photo and asked them to tell me exactly how to remove it. Fingers crossed!

@Gozoman

Thing is, suppose you get it off - then what?

Chances are it’s got some weird and wonderful Sony-proprietary terminations.

So you are going to need a replacement cable that can only come from Sony - and what if they have nothing longer than the one you have now?

The plug-to-one-socket standard UK spec extension lead is looking more attractive by the minute......

As a previous poster said, if it comes plugged into the TV, in the box, it's not meant to be removed.

If it's in the bag/box, all seperate from the TV, then it's a removable cable, like the 65" one, but it's not.

You can see the plastic case frame around the cable, which means its fastened inside and out to stop it being yanked out.

So this is the latest from Sony. Still waiting to hear back from them. From the beginning they have been telling me the cable come out so I justy hope for their sake I haven't caused any damage trying!

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Please note that the case has been raised to the relevant department for investigation.

We shall update yourself with the outcome within two working days.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Yours sincerely,

I'm afraid not not. They kept telling me that the power cable pulled straight out but I can assure you it doesnt. I just had to make up an extension. Don't try pulling it in case you damage it!

@Gozoman I'm a little late here, but I've seen this issue before and I wanted to share the info I found, the diagram shows that it is removable only on the 65" model (that's what the 65 in black means there).

So essentially, your model can't actually have the power cable replaced at all.

Hope this helps!

Yeah I had managed to come to that conclusion myself. You would think though that Sony would know their own product!
