KD-65XE8596 UK BBC iPlayer

Hi all,

Is anyone else having issues with BBC iPlayer?

My Sony Bravia KD-65XE8596 EU spec TV in the UK continually buffers in BBC iPlayer, it is unusable and unwatchable.

This issue only affects BBC iPlayer running on my KD-65XE8596, every other streaming service I have on the TV works without any issue and BBC iPlayer also works without issues on my laptop and another LG TV that I have here.

The KD-65XE8596 is running the latest available v6.7165 firmware and has been factory reset following the update.

The TV is connected to the network via WiFi and it is directly next to the TP Link EAP255 wireless AP.

The Sony BBC iPlayer app (bundled with YouView?) has worked normally in the past here and I'm reaching the conclusion that it is currently broken and needs an update/fix of some sort.

Thanks

Have you tried using a wired connection or a mobile hotspot?

Thanks for your input, I've not tried either of those options yet but I can, will and will report back

That was useful thank you. I first retested to verify the problem still existed and then retested using my mobile phone as a hotspot and I saw an immediate improvement / fix with that setup. That then led me to think about attempting to use 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz on the TV against the access point and that appears to have completely resolved the issue.

I don't understand what the problem was because the other devices mentioned in my first comment are connected by wifi on 5ghz and BBC iPlayer works fine there..but not sure I care though..problem solved!

I believe the TV doesn't fully support 5 GHz, but that was an amazing catch and I'm glad it was resolved for you!

Also, thanks a lot for taking the time to share an update and marking the thread as solved, now others with the same issue will be able to use it as reference ^^
