I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
A word about USB sticks... I had some video (.mp4) files that I put on an unbranded 32gb USB drive & only some of them would play.. I then copied them to a older HP 8gb USB drive & they all worked perfectly! I found this out as a last resort after converting the files to various formats (none of which worked on the 32 gig drive!) So it seems the SONY Bravia is sensitive to particular USB drives!
In Japan the principle of "omotenashi" is very important - it's amost a matter of honour. It means customer service but it's carried out with immaculate politeness, attention to detail and respect for the customer.
I wonder if Mr Kazuo Hirai, Sony's Japanese CEO, would consider that Sony has shown "omotenashi" to its UK customers who have bought Bravia Android 4K televisions?
One thing I have not seen mentioned in posts here, particularly in respect of those people who are having difficulty in getting their retailer to agree to an exchange or refund for their set and made the purchase with a credit card, is the joint responsibility CC companies have.
I found this on the Which website:
Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, the credit card company is jointly and severally liable for any breach of contract or misrepresentation by the company.
This means it is just as responsible as the retailer or trader for the goods or service supplied, allowing you to also put your claim to the credit card company.
You don't have to reach a stalemate with the retailer or trader before you can contact your credit card provider - you can make a claim to both the retailer and credit card provider simultaneously, although you can't recover your losses from both.
This right is particularly useful if the retailer or trader has gone bust, or it doesn't respond to your letters or phone calls.

May be worth calling you CC company if you fall into this category.

Is there an English version ? Thanks. Sent from my iPad
Version of what?
I have a question for those UK peaple who have accidently put the v2.647 EU firmware on your TV's.
I know that there's no youview but are the BBC iPlayer, 5 catchup and Amazon apps available on this firmware?

This is such a long thread that its rather time consuming to go back and forth to see what has and hasn't been mentioned. However I'm 99% sure this has been mentioned and that at least one unhappy owner sucessfully got a refund through their CC company.
Edit to say I have found it on page 250 posted by Item_Not_As_Described...
Hi,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you really have two hopes of getting a full refund out of Currys .....
I have been demanding this under the sale of goods act "item not as described" since the beginning of September. Currys legal department will not admit any liability which i find atrocious.
My only saving grace is that i bought my Sony KD-49X8309C with a credit card back in July and am protected under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
My credit card company contacted me this morning to say THEY agree i have been mis sold and have refunded me in full plus interest. They will arrange collection of my TV next week ( not sure what they will do with it though ?! )
It's a bit of a bitter sweet pill for me as it seems that Currys have got off scott free but at least i am rid of this shocking half built TV once and for all.
If you are struggling to find something in this rather long thread you could do worse than use google site keyword to search a specific site for something.
So for example I used the following to use google to search this thread for the term 'credit card' but it could have been firmware or currys etc
site:community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/2015-bravia-android-tv-issues credit card
which got me four hits on page 93,178,250 and 251. Much quicker than searching by hand....

Thanks for finding this.

I think the CC company claims the money back from the retailer.
