XPERIA 1 dual stop at login screen, go black, no touch but finger print works

Phone boots, show Sony then Android then XPERIA, then Login screen for a second and then screen go black.

Phone is on!

Touch does not work, Finger print seems to work, because the phone vibrate after recognizing thumb print, but I can't see the Numeric keyboard were I first have to enter the pass code after a reboot or startup.

I want to download all my data, but how?

  • USB to PC - Can hear phone connect and prompt for OK "Data connection", but I can't see and touch is not working
  • With PC Companion it ask to Unlock and allow data access, so I can't see and not sure if phone is unlock due to thumb vibration, although it should first require code.
  • I tried via USB C to HDMI cable and connect to Monitor and also TV but does not work.
  • I Reboot phone (Holding Volume+ and Power for 7 seconds), no affect.
  • I Shut down phone (Holding Volume+ and Power for 7 seconds, keeping buttons pressed till phone vibrate 3 times), no affect.

What else can I do?

  1. Sending from South Africa to where ever for repairs will only result in a factory reset which will delete the Data I want to save first.

History (14 months old)(But in immaculate condition)

Hi I went for the first time in water with the phone in my hand, maybe submersed as deep as 10cm of water a few times.

Phone is in physical 100% perfect condition, always cover and screen protector, 0 scratches.

After submersion phone, screen went dead,, it should not have since it has an IP rating for the depth I submersed it.

The screen does cast via USB to HDMI cable to a monitor.

But only repeat what is seen on the phone, will perfectly show Sony, then Powered by Android, then the "rainbow" moving EXPERIA, then go into the phone and then black..

So it is definitely the CPU stopping the screen output via HDMI and phone display.

It does not seem software is frozen since finger print every time let phone vibrate.

I will make a video and post on YouTube

It's most definitely hardware then, must be needing repairing, as some parts could be needing to be replaced completely.

Did you try that option which shows my phone cannot be detected?

Keep phone off, select software repair next tick on my device cannot be detected or started.

Next select xperia phone or tablet.

Follow next few steps.

Only connect the phone when it says connect holding the volume down key until you hear sound in your PC.

But not if it's been damaged before you submerged it.

And you cannot be certain that dirt or dust has entered the phone prior, even though it looks pristine, it may not have been.

Strange though, the screen works then doesn't.

Hello @RottenFoxBreath,

to add to this, submerging it in salt water (once) can kill the phone regardless, since the crystalization can create enough force to "open" gaps in the gaskets.

It should work via "select Xperia phone or tablet."

But that will erase my data which I first want to save, but my data is the only priority for now, not all data is backed up to Google.

I think your device is on and you are not able to see the screen due to some hardware failure..

Maybe the light is too dim..

Maybe the sensor is covered by something.

Can you try to look inside the phone using some light or maybe flash on the screen..

arrange it such that it doesn't reflect your eyes directly.

Last time I noticed this type of problem on my PC so maybe you can try it on the phone too.

You can do this.

Download Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde.

Create a ftf there and flash the firmware.

You can download the latest version of ftf directly from the tool.

Then you flash the device there will be no data loss.
