Touch screen remains active while phone is held to ear

Since the Android 10 update, touch remains active when the phone is held against the ear, causing unwanted operations as the cheek touches various buttons.

In the Xperia tests, the proximity sensor registers when obstructed at a distance of about 2 cm.

Did you consider that you may have activated side sense which can cause unwanted effects?

I thought about that and deactivated Side Sense to see if it helps, but the accidental operation was of buttons in the center of the screen.
