4K recording lag/ feedback issue update.

Hello,

Having issue with 4k recording, when I start recording I notice a slight lag and at time the video seems to be slightly choppy, I have an xz premium and don't have this issue recording in 4k.

I have repair the phone software and only installed the apps that I needed, I have tried this in safe mode and it doesn't seem to replicate, not does this seems to replicate in the cinema pro app. It may be software related, any help on this pleas.

These are my configuration for 4k recording

HDR off

Stabilisation off (believe it or not, it stabilises better off than on)

Saving to SD card v30 for 4k recording.

Again this may be something other users are having issues with by the research if done, is Sony aware of this and are they working on this.

Again just to add I'm running on Android 10, running latest security patch janaury 2020 and  on version 55.1.A.3.49. are other users experiencing this issue too??? I do hope it is a fix coming soon, I'm on holiday right in Turkey and it takes amazing pics but it being let down with the 4k recording. Im going to have to switch to 1080p for my visa unfortunately. Please do let us know if there is a fix about for this.

If it's not replicated in safe mode or with Cinema Pro then it's either the app you are using, or the app you are using and the SD card not being up to the task.

Not every SD card labelled "v30" is good enough.

Some may be fake or some might just have the label on them but be sub par at best.

Hello,

I don't seem to have any issue with safe mode recording 4k, again it's hit and miss again I recorded saving to the SD card and it was fine, I have an xz premium and I find the 4k recording much smoother than the Xperia 1.

I don't know what apps if any, might be causing this to happen, to me it may be a software issue in Sony side but I'm not sure how I can isolate that app that may be causing it, again it seems that when recording 4k it's seems to be a bit choppy or not so smooth.

Can u suggest anything else, also I'm using the stock camera app not any other app, I'm also using my memory memory card which is a very good one.

Hello,

I wanted to update as i have done some things to improve the issues above, may this serve as a helpful hint.

As a start I took out my memory card and tested the 4k recording with her on and stabilisation off (after a restart) it is working so much better, no fps drop or stutter during recording likenibwas experiencing before.

I had a mymemory 256gb card v30 and I formatted the card using the phones formatting recommendation notification, I then proceeded to record 4k again and this time saving to SD card and low and behold no hiccups or  lag or stutters from what have noticed so far.

The third test I did was open up multiple apps and then proceeded to open the Sony camera app straight Way and press the record button, it started and lagged for 1 sec (even if 1 sec at all) and continued recording again it was smooth and stutter less from what I could tell and, the lag at the start with the above conditions applied was there when playing back.

The 4th test I did was exactly the same except before starting record, I cleared all the apps and then proceeded to the Sony camera and then pressed record , there was no lag or stutter or fps drop from what I could tell.

So far these are my findings and I'm still looking to test it out futher, plus I'm in turkey so it is a good way to test it out.

Again I'm not saying this is a fix or anything but so far it is suggesting to me there maybe some memory leaks and I hope this helps the Sony devs and other people.

I will update this thread to see if I can totally get rid of this problem but so far I'm happy that most of the issues for now seemed to have been resolved but time will tell as I use it.

Hello,

Another wee update, just in the shopping malls and so far it had seems ok, I have taken many videos and then it started back up but not as bad, overall it seems 8/10 4k vids seems fine.

Again this isy configuration:

4k with HDR on and stabilisation off with a mymemory v30 256 GB card.

I have noticed there still seems to be slight lags/stuttering even with the above config but again 8/10 vids are fine just the 2 / 10 with the above symptoms.

If I turn off HDR and juts 4k with stabilisation also off, if noticed that it seems to become a bit laggy  as some of the vids displayed either some lag at start up or during the recording some lag.

One particular vids started lagging after I had switch to cam 2 it just started becoming chopoy which was unbreable. Again that was just 4k with HDR off and stabilisation off as well.

I don't know what is going on but the last phone I have and still have is the Xperia xz premium and that does not display the said issues. Xperia 1 does have great vid quality but j hope this is just software and I hope it is fixed soon.

Again, if you have many apps in memory it can cause the above symptoms, I haven't noticed the above symptms when the apps are cleared.

I will report back with more findings and maybe if anyone has any ideas to help on this please do post.

Another update,

I have now been trying different configurations for the 4k recording, it seems that 4k with HDR on and stabilisation off is best working and even then it has to be made sure that apps are cleared to get a smooth start, it seems if there some apps in the ram, and you press the record button it stutters/lags for a second or so and then continues normally, camera 1 & 2 seem ok, when camera 3 (wide lens) is selected with the 4k resolutio, it seems the stabilisation is very shaky and not bearable.

I have now reverted to using 1080p for all cameras, I hope Sony releases a fix as this seems like 2 things, either the stabilisation is causing these issues or there are memory leaks that need to addressed.

Will update as more follows, again I would appreciate help on this and also feedback if you guys are experiencing these things as well.

Won't happen

Sorry but it's a well documented fact that I have been waiting for Sony to fix stability  at 4k since day one.

Another small update,

It seems as, the best settings and procedure at the moment for 4k recording on cams 1 & 2 is, before starting the stock Sony app, it is best to clear all the apps and then start it, this seems to be best in making sure that as oon as you hit the record button there is not 1 seg freeze/lag which I experience when I don't do that.

The best srtting seems to be 4k HDR on, stabilisation off, I have it set to SD card, I have tried the internal storage but the same thing happens.

There defo seems to be maybe some memory leak with the Sony app or some bug, as in safe mode this does not happen. I have tried this with factory reset with only stock apps installed and I get this issue, not in safe mode of course.

For the wide screen I have kept it at 1080p stabilisation on as 4k stabilisation is to buggy and makes the vid chopoy/laggy.

I hope there is a further update to this, again I'm in turkey so I have been extensively been testing this and I make a lot of vids and pics apart from this issue, it is a great phone and ok hope Sony can come round to make a patch for thks.
