water damaged sony z5

I washed my Sony Xperia Z5 with water today, with all ports closed, and a minute later the screen goes blank..

I see moisture in the camera and LED flash lens

I see I get notifications on my phone. finger prints works. audio works. front LED notification works.

just the screen is blank. the touch even works.

in the black screen, the backlight is lit, and occasionally, vertical lines of sometimes red, blue or green appear and slowly fade away.

I tried the phone to an extent that no moisture reappear on the lens .

what's wrong? the connector between the display and the motherboard.. or the screen?

Hi!

I recomend that you shut down your Xperia and go to a official Sony Center and explained the problem. They can see if the water enter the phone from the flaps. In that case, the garanty will get you a new phone. It worked with my previus Z2 model.

Try to see if you have any space in next to the front-speackers.

okay, will contact them.

but I'm sure the flaps were closed, 100%. the water indicator thing next to the SIM card tray did not change colour. it's yellow right now.

I think the water entered from perhaps the gap between the display glass and frame of the body, or the earpiece space.

the phone boots up. the backlight is lit, speaker works and all. just the LCD panel is messed up I guess.

can you send me a link to the place where you bought the panel. and please keep me updated about your phone .

I have the same issue.  Any progress on a solution?  I can see condensation on the front-facing camera.

@GKW

Just leave the phone powered off, in a well-ventilated area, and with all flaps opened for a couple of days to help get the moisture out. Some people say that placing the phone in a bag or a bowl full of rice will also help. Avoid charging your phone while you still suspect moisture inside.

If the phone shows any symptoms of water damage (like a blank screen, flashing red LED, etc) then it would be wise to send it for repair. Bear in mind that water damage is not covered by warranty in almost all markets.

Thanks.  What a shame a phone advertised as IP68 may not in fact be considered watertight when a warranty claim comes around.

I took it back to the place of purchase (Noel Leeming, New Zealand) for assessment late this afternoon.  I guess I can also look at what the Comsumer Guarantee Act may say about this sort of thing in order to put a bit of pressure on Sony NZ to do the right thing.
