I need to copy my contacts from my Sony Xperia Z3 to my gmail account. The screen is broken so I can't export contacts via the Contacts app. I can access the phone via Sony Companion but I don't seem to be able to get access to the contacts through that app. They can be backed up my computer though.
1. Can I export contacts via Sony Companion?
or
2. Can I extract contacts from the backup stored on my desktop
or
3. Are my contacts likely to be synced anywhere else?

Hi @tom123423421345234,
I'm sorry to hear about what has happened to your phone.
First of all, are you able to see anything on the display of your phone or is just completely dark? If you can see anything on your display and it's only the touch function that isn't working, you can with the help of a OTG cable connect a USB mouse to your phone.
You will then see a mouse cursor on your screen which you can maneuver the phone with and export your contacts to your Google account.
Open up the Contacts application > 3 dots in the top right corner > Export contacts > choose storage, a vcard file will now be created and once the export is completed, go back to the contacts application > 3 dots again > Import contacts > choose the same storage as you used when you exported them > Google account.
In Xperia Companion you can transfer data from your device to another Xperia device, there is a new option in the Xperia transfer program that enables you to transfer all the data to the other Xperia device and have the contacts moved to your Google account.
Install and open up Xperia Companion > Xperia Transfer > Sony > Your old device > plug in your phone > choose which data you want to transfer > tap on Xperia + Google > log in with your Google account and follow the instructions.
If you rather want to use this option you need to enable MTP-mode in the developer settings in the phone. To do that go to Settings > About phone > Tap on version 7 times, you should now be a developer. Go back to Settings > Developer options > Turn on "USB debugging" > Select USB Configuration > MTP.
The first option is the easier one to use if you only need them to be on your Google account and the other data isn't as important.
Let us know how it went!
On your computer > access your Gmail > contacts > check if your contacts are there
as long as your phone doesn't have a pin lock/pattern/password you can use XC
Alternatives on How to backup Xperias
thanks for the reply, no all my contacts are not on my gmail account
@uliwool can you explain how to use XC to extract contacts to an online account? It is not clear to me from the program or the user guide
