Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Simlock

Hi, first of all - my English is not fluent, so if something is wrong defined or not clearly, say it, i will try to clarify.

I bought second-hand Xperia Z1 compact. I didnt know it has SIM lock, when I switched it on, there was necessity to type PIN CODE what I did, but it was incorrect. I tried few more times, but it was impossible to type it wrong, so I googled it, and it should be CODE to desactive SIM lock instead of PIN CODE. I went to mobile operator (that one whose is SIM lock) to remove simlock, and got e-mail with code to offload it, furthmore this description "to unlock, you need to insert the SIM card of another network, enter your SIM card PIN, and  then again when the phone asks for a PIN CODE, please enter the unlock code. Unlock code can be entered only 5 times."

The case is I entered something, as far as I know, I have only 1 try more to type code correctly, and I'm afraid about mistake and block phone. If I entered wrong PIN CODE, after that I entered wrong unlocking code 4 times, what should i enter now? PIN code, or unlocking code from mobile operator?

Hi @Fawn, welcome to our community!

If the phone is locked to a service provider and you put in a SIM card from another operator you should see the text "Enter code to unlock SIM network".

In order to make sure that the phone is locked to a specific SIM network, could you please start the phone without the SIM-card inserted?

Open up the phone application and type in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service info > SIM lock. Is there any "X" marks inside the "[ ]" in this menu? If there are, which number do you see to the right?

If there is looks something like this [X] Network 0, that means that the phone is locked to a specific network provider and you have 0 attempts left to unlock the network lock.

In order for these attempts to be reset, the phone has to be sent to an authorized service centre, I will not be able to assist you with this so I would recommend getting in touch with Local support team and they will gladly assist you further.

Let me know how it goes! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi Jonas, thank You for prompt reply!

"Enter code to unlock SIM network" - it's pretty obvious in English, in my language this message is confusing a bit, it's like "Enter PIN code tu unlock SIM network", furthermore I got some kind of guide "how to use unlocking code" from service provider and  there was 2 steps: First - enter PIN code of SIM card, second: when u get ask to enter code one more time, enter unlocking code. If I could do that, I would lock my Z1c... I had only one attempt left. Fortunately I used only "unlocking code" and everything went well Slightly_smiling_Face

Best regards,

Fawn.

Hello again!

I'm happy to hear that everything went well! Slightly_smiling_Face

I can see how that can be very confusing if the text displayed mentions PIN and the guide from your service provider tells you to use the PIN-code as well. Slightly_frowning_Face

Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with and have a great Friday and Merry Christmas!
