SMS and MMS receive delay (very, very long delay sometimes)

Hello,
I have a Sony Xperia z5 and have even having constant text message problems. I often received text messages and picture messages with a delay, and it's often a very significant delay (delays range from 5 minutes to 2 hours) . I tried to Google the issue and it actually appears to be a very common problem and a serious issue on Sony's part that many Z3 users complain about.
I use Textra and have the default SMS app disabled and regularly clear my cache and frequently reboot my phone but it does not help. I know it is not a Textra provlem as the default SMS app does it as well and actually has even more problems (for example the app basically has a melt down if a receive a group message from someone using an iPhone) .

What can I do to resolve this problem? It's very bothersome and has led to me missing a lot of communication in a timely manner.

Thank you

Hi NessiePhones,

Welcome to the community!

Are you able to try another SIM card in your phone and see if the issue is the same?

Also, can you try booting your phone into Safe Mode?

@NessiePhones

lets address this step by step as there are multiple issues here

the first one is the delay

Any message w/o special characters longer than 160 characters will be consider/sent as a MMS, if your data its off you won't be able to send nor receive them, that's also true if you have Stamina mode on, which will disable the data and you won't receive them until you turn on the screen/unlock the phone.

Another possible issue is the network coverage, settings > about phone > status > signal strength > what do you see there? post the numbers here

as for issues with iPhone messages, could you elaborate? also make sure that your friends are NOT sending or attempting to send you iMessages.

Did you had an iPhone before?

How many messaging apps are you using?

Yeah,
to solve MMS delay issue just turn off Stamina Mode.

I did a comparison with a friend sitting next to me at work.
I told him: "send me a mms ". He send. I was waiting, then my telephone rang informing something came , but nothing was displaying still. After a while MMS came.

Then turned off Stamina Mode.
Friend sent MMS again. Was waiting. And after a while there was a ring. Checked messages and a picture from him was there Slightly_smiling_Face

So somehow at least for MMSes it is somehow caused / delayed by Stamina Mode feature.
Hope Sony will improve it.

Thank you very much for the suggestions everyone, unfortunately I was very busy with he holidays and did not have time to reply before.

To answer the various questions and suggestions:

SIM- I have my old Sony Xperia Z4 as well as my old iPhone I could try the SIM with.

SIGNAL- I usually have good signal strength at home and at work. Currently I have 2/4 bars of LTE coverage on AT&T. The signal reads - 98 dBM 43 asu currently.

IPHONE- I did have an iPhone previously before I switched to Android (I had the Sony Xperia Z4 and I got the Z5 after it was released). I notice sms and mms delays the most with iPhone users, however, most of my friends are iPhone users so that could also be a factor that makes it seem more frequent. If I receive group messages from iPhone users it always triggers sms delays.
When I switched from iPhone to the Z4 I deactivated all of my iPhone accounts including iMessenger and I did not experience and issues with SMS or MMS on the Z4, just my current Z5.

MESSAGE APPS- I only use one message app (Textra) but I tried the default app that is pre-installed on the phone but that one is worse. Since this app cannot be deleted I have it disabled.

STAMINA MODE- I usually have stamina mode activated but I turned it off this morning around 10am after reading this post. It is currently 3:30pm and I am currently experiencing SMS delays again.

Thank you everyone for the suggestion!

@NessiePhones

You could boot on >>> safe mode for few hours > and check if you experience the same issues.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my Z3 in Australia.  I am with the No. 1 carrier, Telstra, on 4g.  It takes up to 5 days to receive and send photos.  I try with data on, data off and wifi on too, but it's crap.  I have missed out on business due to this problem.
