Smileys and emojis on Z5C

Running 6.0.1 and got updated this afternoon.

For a while it seemed smiley and emojis were working ok. then today I noticed that when I pressed a graphical symbol, it showed up in character form ":-)" or "(o)" on the editing line. But when I pressed send, and the message is shown above the editing line in the conversation, the graphical form is there. However, My daughter suddenly cannot see the graphical form. I do see hers graphical.

What has happened? and how do I get back my grahical symbols on the editing line and on my daughters iphone.

Hi bk11,

Welcome to the community,

The Emojis have always shown like this 🙂 when typing out the message, however that changes once it has been sent. It has always been this way.

Unless you are referring to the Special Character based Emojis, they can be accessed within the same button, you just need to press one of the grey symbols at the top other then the first one that is shown as this :-).

@bk11

Which app are you using?

Hm - The standard SMS messaging app that came with the phone.

I did research some more. The new emojis from 6.0.1 are all working as expected. It is only the old ones (I beleive they are character combinations and not unicode based). that I have trouble with. I can see them in hte message conversations, but not while editing. And at least on Iphones, they do not show up graphically.

Not sure, it could be an apple issue, you can google: emoji from android to iphone  and you will find other brands with similar issues

But is the behaviour I see as I edit, seeing the characters of e.g. a smiley as 🙂 what others see in 6.0.1?
