Priority SMS Feature - Running Android 6.0.1

How do I remove a priority sms (exclamation mark in red circle) status from a particular contact? I cannot seem to find the settings for this feature anywhere! I am using the regular messaging app for all sms. Thanks!

As far as I know, an exclamation mark in a red circle means that this particular SMS was not sent successfully. Could you post a screen shot of that?

The message was definitely sent as I received delivered report for it. I actually backed up messages, transferred and reinstalled all the smses and the exclamation mark disappeared! It wasn't beside a particular message but on the main list of messages! Most bizarre! Thank you for your reply. I will post an update if I figure out what had happened.
