Hi there,
Is anyone elase finding that overheat control is a data hogger?
My Onavo App Watch is telling me that my Z has used 218 Mb so far in the last 7 days, which is massive.
What does this app do?
Can i just restrict this app to wifi?
Solved! Go to Solution.
maybe it sends data to sony about the condition of the Z, but this much is extreme
i think you might have background apps runing as services such as facebook, chat apps and much more and they eat internet resources as service so i dont think Onavo App could of eaten 218mb in 7 days alone.
Thank you both for replying.
I should clarify that OnavoApp Watch is reporting that the Overheat Control app has used 218 MB in 7 days.
What does this app do?
Can i just restrict this app to wifi?
i would try it to set it to wlan only.
have you any antivirus software on your device?
this amount of traffic is suspicious
I will try to restrict it to wifi using Onavo.
I have Lookout antivirus on my phone.
I have subsequently contacted Sony about this as the overheat control has now used 650MB of data this month.
this is what they told me:
There is no reason for the Overheat application to use any data on your handset, however, it is associated with other applications which may use the data such as: 1. The download agent The Overheat application may show within the Data Usage list if one of the above applications has used Data. You can force close the Overheat application however, if you device was to get too hot then the unit would not turn off, whereas with the application running should the phone overheat it would turn off. We hope this helps. |
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We can advise that the "Overheat Control" application on the Sony Xperia Z, when found within the Data Management application, governs more functions that just the heat control.
As the Overheat Control application itself does not use data then it will be these services (listed in the previous email) which are using the data allowance, they just appear under this application's header within the Data Usage application.
It is not possible to restrict the Overheat Control application to WIFI only as this application directly does not use data itself.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

These answers are not very helpful, as they don't tell me how to solve the problem.
Can anyone tell me how to stop it burning so much data as its killing my data plan?
Thanks.
Hi All
I had restricted Overheat Control to wifi only using Onavo to manage the problem, although it was stil cugging through data.
However, Onavo has recently updated and so its no longer possible to use this app to restrict Overheat Control to wifi only.
Onavo is telling me that OverHEAT CONTRoL HAS USED 986 mb in the last month.
Can anyone help me as there is clearly a problem?:smileyangry:
can you post screenshots?
also go to
settings > data usage > and take screenshots of the whole list
here they are. Any ideas?
