Micro sd card changing size

Hi, I needed to change my sd card as it was full, I bought a 128gb but before installing it, I used a 64gb dongle to take off all the photos etc as the phone memory was also full. I installed the new card and it was showing around 124gb. The trouble started when I plugged in the dongle again to start uploading all the data I have. The sd card is dropping in size to 64gb, the same as the dongle and in file commander it's showing the same files on each. When I eject the dongle, the sd card drops to about 4gb. If I eject the sd card and put it back in, it's back to 124gb. Can anyone help me please..Tim.

Hello @Jackel52,

Welcome to the community!

If I understand everything correctly, you connect your dongle to your phone with the SD-card inserted to your phone? When this is done only 64GB of the 128 that should be available are shown? Or do you mean that you connect your SD-card using a dongle and an OTG-adapter to your phone?

I would recommend that you reboot your phone with both the SD-card and dongle inserted. Is there any change then?

If possible please also try this using another SD-card, can you re-create this then as well?

In my ears however, it sounds like this might be related to the dongle if the SD-card works (when inserted in the phone) and displays the correct amount of available storage.

Keep me posted!

Your right, the sd card is in the phone, then I connect the dongle. That is when the sd cards size drops. The thing that gets me is that the sd card and the dongle suddenly show as the same size and both show as having the same files on them, when so far, I haven't moved any files over to the sd card. Thanks for the reply.

Quick update, I took the easy way out and fired up rhe laptop and just moved everything I needed. Having the dongle plugged in before starting the phone did the same thing again, thanks again for you time with this.

Hello again,

As far as I can tell this is related to the dongle somehow. I'm not quite sure what the exact reason might be, if possible I would recommend that you try another dongle to see if there is any change. It might also be worth checking out if one of your downloaded apps could be causing this, I would suggest that you try rebooting your phone to safe mode to see if that helps.

But as I understand it you found a workaround for this and got your files transferred, yes?

I will try a few things and let you know.
