GPS not working with Z1 Compact on Android 4.4.4

I have a freshly bought Z1 compact phone and the GPS is not working.

The phone is not rooted, the location services are enabled, I've tried a factory reset but the Service Tests - GPS Location Test (accessed from *#*#7378423#*#*) just says: "Waiting for location update".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

   Zoltan

Did you also try Purge assistance data via the service menu? When this is done, it can take a some minutes before you can find a location. Go outsuide and let the phone search to see if this can help.

Otherwise, I can only suggest that you perform a software repair in PC Companion:

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/

In PC Companion you press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Repair phone/tablet (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.

Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.

Hi Hampus,

Thanks for the link, I tried changing the APN-type from "default" to "default, supl", but no luck. My carrier recommends setting APN-type to "default" or blank, though: http://www.telenor.hu/beallitasok/android

I turned on everything: mobile data, location, LTE, purged the assistance data, restarted the phone but still no GPS fix. Slightly_frowning_Face

Right now the phone is running on factory defaults, I haven't changed anything or installed any app/update.

Thanks,

I gave it a try a few hours later and it worked... Almost at the same spot. Not sure what was wrong.

I'll experiment with this a bit more to see if the issue resolved itself automatically. Definitely there _was_ something wrong because I had another (non-android, non-sony) smartphone next to this one and that could pick up the GPS signal very quickly while this one was just waiting for location info for minutes.

Anyway, thank you for your support, I'll reply back to this thread if the problem persist.

Hi,

I used the GPS for navigation over the weekend and it worked just fine.

I guess the original problem was that I didn't wait long enough the first time, I should've waited more than 1-2 minutes to get a GPS fix.

Thank you for the answers.

My GPS did not work, with all the tests that were mentioned here, I was already half an hour waiting for the signal and nothing. Already reseted the phone and did not come back. What can I do to the signal works?

Hello!

I've bought yesterday my second Z1 compact.  First was excellent but was broken.

Now I've found that it has a GPS -issue.

So

GPS level

As I can see - there is no problem with number of availible sattellites, but very low signal level makes navigation unstable. Also shown levels was in open field. In my car it was unable to find my location all day long with short "GPS OK" status (not more than 1-2 minutes).

Can I fix it by software? (now it's 5.0.2 version  14.5.A.0.270) Or it's a reason to return my phone to seller?

So it looks like unfixible without hardware maintance... I'll give it back to seller next week.
