Double Tap to wake up app

Double Tap to wake up app

I have found a couple of issues regarding the "tap to wake feature" - its being quite inconsistent.

I sometimes find myself clicking 5 times before it actually wakes up. In addition, it sometimes

wakes up in my pocket, which isn't suppose to happen thanks to the light sensor. It happened

a dozen times and sometimes even made calls, added widgets etc.

P.S, if there is a "tap to wake" why isn't there a tap to sleep?

Thanks.

Thanks razvan for the update

@Rickard - can we get the other issue raised internally so that its fixed during the next update

@razvan

Sounds like you keep the phone in such a way that the camera key is getting pressed in that case. I'm afraid i can't give you any other solution for this then to turn off quick launch.

But regarding the other issue i don't understand why you're spamming the back button like that? If you don't want to wait for the call to be ended and that it returns to the dialpad by itself you should not press back repeatedly, you should press home instead.

Hi Rickard
I am used to use back function to be sure that an app is closed after usage, to eliminate the fact that many apps could stay open
But I will try also directly home button
Thanks

Does C3 have tap to wake up function?

@Rickard

Please do forward this fetaure request for the Z2 and Z3 series. The tap to wake does wake the phone up while in the pocket and many other makers are using the proximity sensor to avoid this.

cheers

I do hope that Sony would release an update that will fix this double-tap problem.

In my opinion, I think it is very sensitive that when the double-tab feature is active, it will inadvertently activate applications such as camera or dial numbers automatically without you knowing it.

I had it once dial my friend's number in Germany--good thing that the call only took less than a minute or else it will cost me a fortune in long distance calls I did not make!  He had to hang up when my friend realized, I may have dialled by mistake...And another time, I felt my pocket being a bit warm, only to see that my Xperia Z3 Compact was taking a 4K video of my pocket!!!

That time made me disable this feature.  So, no more accidental phone calls or dark videos recorded...BUT, I really like this feature!!!  As it is sooo much more convenient to double-tap it to check notifications and time.

So, please, Xperia Tech Guys...kindly take a look at this issue and release a fix for it.  Thank you very much!  🙂

@Rickard I have the same issue, my Z3C activate by it self in my pocket when I select Tap To wake mode. Therefore I disabled it. I thing the idea of using proximity sensor is good option to eliminate wrong touch while the Z3C in a pocket.

I understand this is an old thread, but Sony really need to consider tying the double tap to wake feature to the proximity sensor. I turned it on again after having it off for a while, and immediately i pocket dialed someone. and subsequently over the day, the phone unlocked in my pants, and I had to turn off this otherwise very useful feature.

I recently bought a Z3+ as well, and same issue (a lot of reviewers mention the same too). My friends with Z2, and Z3 all reported the same issue, and ended up diabling it entirely. No wonder Sony didn't enable it by default. It would have pissed a lot of people off i imagine.

I have used G2, G3, G4, some windows phone, One M8, One M9, etc, all with similar features, and I have not encountered accidental wakes on those devices. Even on Motorola's Moto Display on the Moto X, Droid Maxx, i didn't have any issues with accidental wakes. Most of these devices uses proximity sensor if i am not mistaken.

Would Sony seriously consider tweaking the feature in future updates?

Hello,

I have the same issue whenever enable the double tap wake up fucntion. The phone wakes up in my pocket and makes unwanted operation.

I don't think the camera key is getting pressed in this case cause of I use a back cover for my phone.

I also don't think the camera in quick launch is the reason.

The main reason is unwanted wakening of the screen and then other icons in the quick launch is actived (includes wipe to unlock screen)

We should not disable the camera in quick launch cause of it will also disable quick lauch camera by pressing the camera button, a helpful function whenever we want to take a photo quickly.

The double tap to wake up is the useful function, specially when my phone is on a desk. Thus I don't want to disable this function as suggestions in some forums.

@ Rickard

I don't think "If you notice that the phone wakes up in your pocket you could perhaps try putting it down in the pocket with the display facing out." is the good suggestion as it will be easier to get screen broken (this case is not under warranty and the screen much more expensive than the glass plate on the back.

As you are a xperia support, I think you should pay attention to the idea of members/ customers about using the proximity sensor to support the double tap to wake up fucntion so that the phone will disable the double tap function whenever the proximity sensor detect the pocket mode.

I have tested and it seems the phone also disable the double tap function whenever we cover the light/ proximity sensor with very close distance while in pocket, it should be set for longer distance.

@ Friends whom have this issue

I have tried several ways to try to solve this issue and finnally it is temporary solved.

If you have not find any way, I recommend to find an app on google play that uses the proximity sensor to lock screen (we just need lock - to wake up we have double tap 🙂 ).

It will be easier to you to find this kind of app. on the google play by search the words "Proximity lock", "Proximity screen off" or "smart cover"... and then you can try and discover which app you like. Or if you want to know which app I am using, pls PM to me I will try to reply with information ASAP.

Brs,
