I have found a couple of issues regarding the "tap to wake feature" - its being quite inconsistent.
I sometimes find myself clicking 5 times before it actually wakes up. In addition, it sometimes
wakes up in my pocket, which isn't suppose to happen thanks to the light sensor. It happened
a dozen times and sometimes even made calls, added widgets etc.
P.S, if there is a "tap to wake" why isn't there a tap to sleep?
Thanks.
I also got this problem also. tap but not wake up. I have to go to the setting and remove this feature and re-activate the it again. And it will work for a couple days and then it doesn't wake up on tap-tap again and again.. please fix it..
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with tap to wake.
I've been testing this here and the tap to wake function is not connected to the proximity switch or light sensor from what i can find. A double tap will however not wake up the phone if something is already touching the display. Say for example that you put a finger in the corner of the display while it's in sleep and then double tap somewhere else with another finger the phone will not wake up. If it registers more than one touch point (try tapping with two fingers) it will not wake up either so it seems unlikely that this feature would wake up the phone when you have it in your pocket. While unlikely it may of course happen. If you notice that the phone wakes up in your pocket you could perhaps try putting it down in the pocket with the display facing out.
If you have issues waking up the phone with double tap it could be that it's registering more than one touch point. Make sure you're holding the phone so that you're not touching any other part of the display and try cleaning the display.
Hello Rickard and thank you for your answer.
I feeled that using the proximity sensor to discriminate any possible touch when the phone is in a pocket will always do the trick and avoid any unwanted screen wake up. That's the meaning of my question.
I've tried to replicate this problem in a store with tw0 Z3C (gloves mode disabled), and unfortunately it happened many times, even with the screen not faced to the leg.
Maybe this feature is waiting to be better calibrated in the next lollipop upgrade?
I can forward it as feedback internally
But are you sure it's the tap to wake that's waking up the phone? Sounds strange when it happens even when you don't have the display towards your body.
What if you disable quick launch in the camera under Camera -> [menu] -> [settings] -> Quick launch? When that's enabled pressing the camera button will start the camera.
Unfortunately i haven't got a Z3C yet...still with my excellent (but very slow..) Arc S so i can't do what you are suggesting me...but if anyone is reading this thread please, perfom some try and report here to Rickard!!
All that i can remember is what i've told you before and if it can be usefull i can surely say that when the screen woke up there where NO camera App open but simply the screen unlocked and the "first" or "second" home screen page dispayed.
Thank you for your attention Rickard, and thank for your forwarding.
@ Rickard even my Z3 and Z3C has the same issue more noticeable in Z3 as i end up opening so many app when my phone is in pocket and its very annoying and sometime i have tap more than twice to wake up the phone, this function is inconsistant, also another bug is when you end the call and hit the back button at faster interval to come back to main home page it automatically opens other apps which were recently opened and only solution is to close all the app using the shortcut menu or reboot
