Charging problem - screen won't turn off

Yesterday after connecting a charger to the phone it shut off, and wouldn't come back on again.

It was after charging a few hours the phone rebooted, first stuck in a bootloop, when reset (vol up + on/off button) it started up.

Now while Charging the screen comes up, the phone shows a message for the Smarrt Connect program, but it's closed inmediatly.

Also, the screen stays on while charging, won't go to black. When I push the on/off button to get the screen black, it immediatly goed on again.

Someone has any idea what's going on?

You may need to perform a software repair using PC companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

Thanks, I'm at work now, so I can't install PC companion, but when I get home I will give the old XP machine a start-up and install the Companion and repair my phone. I will let you know whether this was the sollution.

Thanks very much!

I have the exact same problem: while charging the screen keeps turning itself on. Trying to make a phone call while charging results in interruptions and noises. Typing on any app is almost impossible, the keyboard goes away and comes back randomly and with high frequency.

Another issue is that the phone does get very hot when reaches 100% charged. If I keep it connected to the power outlet or to the PC during the night it does get very, very hot in the morning.

Also, I can`t make it turn off properly. The Sony screen keeps coming on and only when I hold power + volume up it does turn off.

I have already tried the recovery from the PC Companion and restored several backups. I`ve tried charging on so many different usb cables and power outlets I couldn`t count. Safe mode doesn`t help, too.

I do really think it's is a hardware issue. On the battery, more probably.

Are there any other suggestions I haven't tried or should I take it to Sony's technical assistance?

i have exactly the same problem on my z2, it just automatic shut off and wont turn on again for few hours. Then the screen start to remain on while charging. Sony service center cant help me resolve. reset or update or anything they do cant help me resolve. They dont know the cause. I cant sell the phone because no value too. Thats why i switch to Apple now.. really frustrated.

I have the same problem with my Z2 tablet, and this significantly slows down charging time. Even with airplane mode and stamina turned on, the screen keeps turning itself on and this in turn causes power drain. Turning brightness down all the way doesn't help much, and no, trying to "repair" with the PC companion makes no difference either. (and I find it laughable that the only suggestion Sony reps can make for what is obviously a problem with their firmware is to do things that would destroy data) and on some charging cables that would ordinarily be enough to charge to 100%, it won't charge much above 60% on the Z2 entirely because the screen starts causing a drain that's faster than it can charge. It just fluctuates up and down, but even faster charging cables are way too slow because of the same problem.

Worse than this though is what the Xperia Z2 does when I turn it off: The screen turns on repeatedly, when physically powered off, even if it is not plugged in. In fact, the tablet drains power faster off than on. Seriously. It will go from 100% to 0 in less than an hour, so unlike the Z1 where I could actually turn it off to conserve power, I don't have the luxury of doing that with the Z2. Charging while physically off is also slower than when physically on for the same reason, so that isn't an effective work around.

You'd think that keeping the screen from turning itself on while off or charging would be an important design consideration.
