Charge port cover

Hi. Has anyone had a problem with the rubber seal on the cover of the charge port? I've had my device for just over a year now and as i was closing the cover after charging i noticed it wasn't closing properly. Under closer inspection i noticed that part of the rubber seal that keeps it waterproof was missing. I only ever use my fingernail to open the charge port and it looks like over the time I've had my device, the seal has been damaged which is going to have a effect on its ability to keep water out. Im thinking about sending my device for repair but after reading the terms of the warranty im left confused. At the start of the warranty terms it states "If, during the warranty period, this Product fails to operate under normal use and service, due
to defects in design, materials or workmanship, Sony authorised distributors or service
partners, in the country/region* where you purchased the Product, will, at their option, either
repair, replace or refund the purchase price of the Product in accordance with the terms and
conditions stipulated herein." yet further down in the terms it states "This warranty does not cover any failure of the Product that is due to:

Normal wear and tear."
My question is if i send my device away to get fixed by sony as i believe the design and materials used should last the duration of the warranty, are they going to charge me saying its not covered because its classed as wear and tear?
I would be very greatful to hear from anyone that has had a similar issue or someone that can tell me whether or not this problem should be covered under warranty.
Thanks for your help
Steve.

Since its iffy for it to be covered in the warranty and it was going to cost over £20 just for sony care to have a look at it i decided to have a look on youtube to see how difficult it is to replace. Turns out its very easy. Search on youtube to see how its done and order a replacement online.
If you live in the UK try this place. States that it is genuine parts. I've just ordered it. Should arrive in a day or 2.

www.replacebase.co.uk

Cost me £8.15 including postage. Will let you know what i think when it arrives.

Received my new charge port cover the day after ordering it and have fitted it. Looks like original part (same colour and size) and fits perfectly tight. I've also tested the pressure sensor in phone by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* and going into service test. (never been brave enough to put in water even when new just in case)This doesn't guarantee the device being water tight but does check the pressure build up of air inside the device when the screen is pressed down. If the numbers climb it means the device is air tight so likely water proof as well since air isn't escaping from inside the device. With the port cover open the air escapes and the numbers dont climb. If anyone else has this issue i recommend buying a replacement cover as its likely sony care will put it down to wear and tear and not only charge a silly price for part and labour but charge you postage and handling on top. Thanks youtube. You saved me money.

Sony should recall all devices to replace all outside lids. I've been using my cellphone for less than five months, and the sealing rubber has already detached from the lid. I believe I'm not the only one who has had this problem. And don't even try and say that it was misuse because if it were so, there wouldn't be some many faulty lids. And the battery used to last a lot, but now in stand-by during the night it, it's consumed from 30 to 40% without being used. And the camera now is bad. I have three Sony cellphones. That is the last time I have purchased one. I'll start using a different brand, even though I love Sony products.
