Battery icon % never changes

I've only had my Z5 compact about a week. It died one day and now no matter how long it's been charged the battery icon stays at 20%. If I do a hard reset it goes to 100% and stays no matter how much I used the phone. Is this a glitch, bug or what? I want so much to love this phone, but this is driving me crazy. Any help would be great!

Try to use a different wall charger and also boot in >>> safe mode

Thanks uliwooly, but I've tried both to no avail.

There's a cache where the phone stores data about battery life and usage - I can't remember where it is, but I'll post here to let you know what to clear when I remember what it's called.

This is a method to clear the cache.

While your phone is on, do this while the screen is locked and on the unlock menu/home page, press and hold Power Button + Volume Up
There'll be a delay, and the phone should vibrate. Then the screen should turn off.

You can release Power + Volume Up once the screen goes black.

Power your phone back up.

If you haven't charged to full, turn the phone back off, and let it charge to 100%. Turn it on, and let it drain completely from your daily use. Then recharge it to 100% again, and turn it back on.

It should recalibrate itself by doing this.

Tried this too, but it hasn't worked.

When you go to the battery section in settings does it display a percentage?

It shows 20% no matter how long it's been charged
