Audio distortion with headphones

So I've only had my Xperia Z5 for a week or so. This morning I put on some music, and halfway through my commute to work the sound became distorted. It had really loud bass notes that overshadowed everything else, and bad static coming through. I tested my headphones on different apps on the phone - Amazon music and Youtube - and the sound was still distorted. I also fiddled around with the sound settings and restarted my phone several times. No change.

I tested my headphones out on my PC and ruled out my headphones as the possible source of distortion. It's definitely the Xperia Z5 acting up.

Anyone have an idea why?

I've checked that my software is up to date as well. The sound was fine until this morning. 😕

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi @flubberpond,

Could you check if you have Automatic Optimization enabled in your device?
If so please check this post: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z5-Z5-Compact-Z5-Premium/Automatic-Optimization-Android-6-Sound...

@flubberpond

You need to try the following:

- Inspect audio jack for any dust or debris (don't insert sharp objects)

- Check if other headphones are doing the same distortion

- Clear data of your Smart Connect app: Go to Settings -> Apps -> Smart Connect -> Force stop, Unistall updates, Clear data and restart your phone. Go to your Play Store and update Smart Connect again.

I fiddled around with the settings the first time after the audio distortion started - no change.

It was also around this time that I first received the Smart Connection notification. I went into the default Music app a few hours later, fiddled around with the audio settings again, and it has finally stopped.

I hope this will be fixed soon.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi,

I have got a 2 year old Xperia Z3, and just a couple of weeks ago I suddenly go problems with distortion in my headphones when playing music from my phone. I have ruled out that the headphones was the proble (I have tried 5 or 6 different headphones). Then I thought that was that there where something wrong with the minijack connector in the phone and went to my local rep lab to have it replaced.

It seemed to be fine until the next day, then the same happened, just distortion. I went back to the rep lab and had the connector replaced for a third one, but no luck. The guy at the counter told me that he had the same problem with his on Xperia Z3+ without being able to fix it.

I normally use another music app than the one that goes with the phone, so I tried the standard music app, I have tried the FM radio app but the distortion starts as soon as I insert the mini jack.

I have turned off ClearAudio+, I have deactivated Smart Connect, and now I need help.
