XZ Premium / XZ1 WiFi Hotspot tethering problem

Hi all,

Starting a new thread looking for new fresh analysis on this problem.

Facts: XZ Premium / ZX1 phones on Oreo 8.0.0 (47.1.A.12.75 or 47.1.A.12.119)

When I turn the WiFi hotspot on the device is not visible. USB tethering, and BT tethering do work, so it appears it has to do with WiFi.

I decided to view if there was any error in the device using adb shell &logcat.

Seems the host access point daemon is complaining with the channel it is being asked to use as the hardware will not support it.

Then appears that within hostapd.conf channel 6 is being used and the harware will not support it.

I have another device, an Xperia Z2, which I don't use any more, which Hotspot's worked and still does well (same mobile operator).

I rooted the Z2 and checked the file, (normal user does not have permissions). I found that channel 1 is called  instead. I suspect that if I change the channel to 1 on either XZP or XZ1 the daemon will start.

I am stuck now as these two Oreo devices  I own are under warranty but at least wanted to share these findings.

This is so easy to fix by Sony IMHO, that I expect it to be fixed promptly.

When Sony reserves some things only to be done by Sony I understand that as well as the right it also acquires the commitment to fix problems customers have. First thing is to acknowledge the problem and say at least "yes valuable customer, we are working on that here @Sony". Last but not least Sony's flagships like these two phones should show what the company is capable of and prove the investment we customers do is worth.

hostapd : Configuration file: /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf
hostapd : rfkill: Cannot open RFKILL control device
hostapd : Channel 6 (primary) not allowed for AP mode
hostapd : wlan0: IEEE 802.11 Configured channel (6) not found from the channel list of current mode (1) IEEE 802.11g
hostapd : wlan0: IEEE 802.11 Configured channel (6) not found from the channel list of current mode (1) IEEE 802.11g
hostapd : wlan0: IEEE 802.11 Hardware does not support configured channel
hostapd : wlan0: IEEE 802.11 Hardware does not support configured channel
hostapd : Could not select hw_mode and channel. (-3)
hostapd : wlan0: interface state UNINITIALIZED->DISABLED

Sincerely,

Alvaro.

Hi,

Fully agree. I had to stick to 47.1.A.12.179 for this reason (remember my XZ1 worked fine too). I am wondering, without having a second (non-production) phone, which I used to have, how can I test the latest firmware lacking this and the wifi disconnection problem. Maybe Sony can help,,. I mean with the second phone.

Regards,
