That is indeed the icon for VoLTE as @uliwooly mentioned.

VoLTE is a fairly new technology that allows you to make phone calls over the 4G/LTE network.

Some of the benefits of this are:

• Better voice quality
• Faster call setup
• The phone remains in the LTE/4G network during voice calls
• You can use LTE/4G data services, such as web surfing and tethering, and simultaneously make and receive calls

If you want to turn this setting off, you can do so in Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile networks, in here you should have a switch to turn VoLTE off and on (they are no real benefits of turning this off though).
