Software update death loop

I recently purchased an XZ1 Compact. Love the phone, DON'T love the Sony experience thus far. I'm stuck in a death loop of repeated notifications to install an update I've already installed. I installed it a couple of times before realizing it was prompting me to install the same update. I talked with Sony Support about it Saturday morning, and they told me to update the phone via the Xperia Companion desktop app. I did that, and the Companion app did the same thing: told me I was up-to-date, then immediately told me to update again.

When I told the support guy ("Sebastian S.") this, he just said "I'll tell the devs, get back to us in a week if you're still having the problem." I'm 1000% certain they're not going to fix the problem in the next week, so have any of you run into this problem and found a resolution? I'm worried the only solution might be to wipe my phone and start over, but I'm REALLY hoping to avoid that scenario.

Are you absolutely sure it is the same update, because when you buy a device and connect it online it prompts you to consecutive updates until you have the last version available.

Check if your build number in Settings >system >about phone is the same of the update, check also in settings >system >software update >top right 3 dots >updates history if you have repeated updates.

Well boy do I have egg on my face. You are correct. I'm resuming updates now.

Hi . Is there a way of knowing how many more updates you have to do. I have the same issue and have done numerous updates but still keeps asking me to do it. The number keeps changing so it is doing the update but have got better things in life to do haha

You can check the last version available for your costumization version and how many updates have been released in Xpericheck.com.

You can also jump to the last update if you use Xperia Companion to update your phone.

thankyou for your help. When i use companion i just use the software update choice ..i cant see where you are able to jump to the latest version.Once i have  updated software it just says a different version is available. Are you talking about the "software repair" option? Im worried this is like a factory reset and will mean loosing all my settings , passwords stored etc.

Also my vesrion is xz1 g8441 which does not appear in the list search on Xpericheck.com
