Have you tested the device in >>> safe mode, just to rule out third party apps

I too had the exact same issue. I reported the error to Sony, to say that the repair tool was not fit for purpose, as it actually caused the issue and then would not recover/reload the software. I did have to send the handset into the service centre to get phone working again.

My Sony Xperia XZ lags every 5 hours or less phone becomes unusable and yes I put it through Sony companion software repair

Sony if you need help with writing  optimize program, for your devices and software it's easy everything that's Apple doing just copy it and make it better 😉
