Adaptive brightness

Hi all,

Using adaptive brightness display setting makes my screen go bright and dark permanently. Had to disable it.

Is this a software bug or might it  be a defective sensor?

Does anyone have the same issues?

Thanks, Andi

really annoying. unusable...

my older xperia z1 compact is uncomparably smooth..

if there is no solution, i think i will return my new phone right away.. Slightly_frowning_Face

wonder how many people returned their phones because of this irritating behavior..

i cant see how anyone will want this display behavior. it looks very cheap.

edit:

i ll try to write better description for troubleshooting this bug:

i can see that transitions when dimming and brightening are not smooth. to me it seems, there are lot less steps between full brightness and full dimm, than in my old z1c. i would say its more than 10times less steps! maybe even more. or maybe there was better "steps management" in old z1c. better smoothing between same amount of recognizable steps. because now it seems like this ____|

hey sony! just tell me you are working on it and i ll keep my loved compact!

I have the exact same problem. I was using the phone in the car while my wife was driving and the backlight was going crazy. It would flicker (for lack of a better word) every time we passed a steetlight every few seconds.

Either the backlight is too sensitive or there are too few steps from dark to light and back.

I eventually turned off the backlight as it is unusable as it is.

I went out a few minutes after  I posted a message and in the sunlight the display was almost invisible. I had to turn adaptive brightness back on. This is an issue that needs to be fixed.

I'm also experiencing the same problem. It's extra noticeable when it's dim in the room. In a well lit room it seems to work fine. I hope it's a fixable software problem.

Hi,

today i got my new Xperia XZ1 Compact, turned it on and had the same problem.

The adaptive brightness was all the time dimming up and down in very hard steps. So the one thing is that the automatic brightness itself has a Bug and the Steps are too big. If i do manually i can adjust the brightness very smooth by the slider.

its never smooth. if you slide your finger fast enough, maybe it is better, but when you slide slowly, you can clearly see those hard steps. at least in my case

Same issue with my Sony XZ1. Hopefully they fix it soon. Brightness not smooth at all. Bluetooth broken - does don't easily connect to popular devices.
