Xperia Z Tablet Wont charge, red LED on near power button. (Will list what I've tried)

I've had the tablet for 4 days now. I haven't had any problems with it until this morning. I plugged the tablet in last night but this morning it showed the charging icon but it hadn't charged any (was still at about 55%). I unplugged the charger from the wall and plugged it into another outlet. The tablet indicated that it was charging again. I left it plugged in for a couple hours but it still showed 55%.

Troubleshooting steps that I have tried:

  1. Plugged charger into a different outlet
  2. Tried using another USB cable
  3. Tried charging my phone (to make sure the adapter was working)
  4. Tried holding down both volume buttons and power button (was supposed to do some kind of reset?)
  5. Checked all ports for any signs of water damage, all indicaters are white.
  6. Tried charging the tablet with my phone charger

The tablet has a red light on near the power button. Now that the tablet battery is completely drained obviously it wont power on but I have had no problems with powering up or down. I checked the power input port, it doesn't look like anything is loose, all connections seem to be in good condition as well. I've had it plugged in for an hour and a half and it obviously isn't charging even though the charger seems to be working fine. Is there any other steps I can try before sending this back?

I unplugged it and plugged it back in, seems to be charging now. It's at about 25%. Hopefully it will continue to work! I'm not sure what the problem was. This was the first time it went without being charged until that battery was completely dead.

That is odd and certainly something worth keeping an eye on. If this happens again given what you have tried up to this point it may be worth returning it so that it may be assessed by an authorised repair agent.

Unplug the charger, turn it off, plug the charger in and turn the tablet on.

@moh05 - As above if you have tried everything available to get this to work with no success then I can only advise you to return the phone so that it may be assessed by an authorised repair agent.

i had the same issue where my tablet was stuck at 10% for a hour or so until i unplugged the charger and replaced it in then is started to charge i think this is definitely a 4.3 firmware issues as the tablet was fine charging when it was on 4.2.2 ??

Hi All,

Just joined to express my frustration with my tablet not charging.

I took the 4.3 version software update on Sunday and today is the first time I have tried charging since.

Nothing will work at all and tablet is now completely dead.  I have only owned it about two weeks and am loathe to have to send it off for repair / investigation.

In fact, i am already seriously considering sending it back to manufacturer as faulty and asking for a refund.

Any other ideas as this seems very much like a firmware screw up

There is definitely a charging issue with 4.3 and beyond.  I first encountered this when upgrading the first time.  My issue was that it would get to about 96% and stop.

I am not sure if the code is wacky and it is indeed at 100%. I have exchaned it twice.  Same issue.  Sony techs thought it was a defect.  I have been doing  a little test and find that if I leave the tablet ON, then the charge will get to 100%. That assumes that I am not browsing the net, etc.

In my case, the green light comes on and the charger cools off when it gets to 96%. That tells me that 4.3 code thinks that the battery is fully charged when in the OFF mode.  However, as I said earlier, it the tablet is ON......and I let it sit in that sate, it will go to 100%..

My Tablet is experiencing the same problem! I bought it in January, this year & noticed I had keep taking out the micro USB plug from the charger and put it back in a number of times before it would start charging.

Another problem that seems to be persistent, is that it will never charge when I turn it off, I've even put the charger in and made sure the charging battery indicator is displaying, battery was at 20% at this point, I leave it on all night, wake up the next day and the red led is on, I turn it on and it's lost power! Happens every time I turn it off. I've tried the "pressing power button, volume up together" thing to reset it etc, and the problem still persists. I am returning to the consumer this weekend. For the price we paid, it should not have this problem
