I've been trying to update my phone now for nearly two weeks, trying various options, yet nothing I do helps in any way.
I started off just running the update from SEUS with my phone as i've been using it - the updater started, gets about 70% through "Preparing" and pops up an error "Unable to install or start software update components." Closing which pops up "try again" or come to this site.
I then tried uninstalling all installed components, same result as above.
I then tried a Master Reset to factory setting, same result as above.
I then disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus, same result as above
Basically, i'm at the end of my tether, this should not be this difficult, I should not have to jump through this amount of hoops.
If there was a way to legitimately root the phone (keeping warranty), I could already have Froyo installed, instead of this irritating mess thats causing me nothing but headaches.
Hey @EvilGav. Here are some good tips that may help you with your inconvenience... you have already tried a few but is good to follow these path:
Unable to upgrade the phone in PCC (even though the new SW is available) – Possible solutions
-Different versions of PCC behave differently. I would recommend that the user uninstalls the current version and re-installs the latest one (version 2.01.068 or later). The latest version in available for download on the Support Zone (maybe we could have a link to it)
-Check the settings in PC Companion. Press “PC Companion Settings” in the top right corner of the UI. Set “Phone updates” to “Next time I connect my phone” and connect the phone to PCC.
It might take a few minutes for PCC to find the new SW. Until it does – it will state that the SW is up to date.
-Make sure that the Internet connection is good. If the update process is interrupted it might be due to loss of Internet connection.
-Try using another PC.
-Temporary disable any firewalls and or antivirus software.
-Start your PC in “Safe mode with networking” mode. This is done by pressing F8 during PC boot. When Windows is started in safe mode, try taking the update again.
Tried all that, now on the latest version of PCC (as listed), safe mode etc etc, nothing, same error as before.
Surprisingly enough, I don't have another PC laying around to try this out on.
More than a little irritated, given i've spent time resetting a phone back to factory defaults and getting nowhere.
Oh hooray and to add insult to injury the restore service doesn't work either, which means I have to recreate my phone from scratch.
Bloody ridiculous.
I try everything too, but nothing work. Hope I find another pc tomorrow to try.:smileycry::smileyangry:
