I had this problem when my X10 was connecting unbeknown to me to my netbooks audio headset facility, actually thought my speaker on my phone was broken cos I could hear a weird tinny sound when playing a track... it was comming out of the netbook. You can disable this on your laptop to stop it happening or set it up so you have to give permission to connect each time, so that you are aware that its on.
The dialling issue I avoid by using the app Gesture Search, you basically draw in with your finger the first letter of your contact and then simply click on the green handset by their name if you want to call them. No trolling through and then being taken elsewhere to dial. If you click on their name, it takes you to their contact page in the phone book so you can do the normal editing etc from that page. I rarely use the phone book now.
