Touchscreen unresponsive

I have just finished charging my phone all of a sudden the touch screen at the bottom has become unresponsive where you can put 4 icons and the manu button. I can not get into my contacts or make phone calls. However i have set a few shortcuts on the screen with the buttons and its the same for the keyboard the space at the bottom does not work.

I have cleared data so far and its not done the trick switched on and off a few times and still no joy.

Anyhow i am in England im guessing i need to send it away.

try to reboot your phone, if that doesn't do it, then try a taskiller

if that doesn't do it then use Update Service to repair your phone

Make sure you backup everything before using PCC or Update Service

You can install Backup & Restore (works for arc, play, neo, x10, etc)

http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/65988#65988

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result

or your SMS use

"backup & restore SMS"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result

or for your MMS use "Save MMS"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.schwimmer.android.mmsextract&feature=search_result

one last thing

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

Appreciate all the help but its back to the shop its had a hard reset and a new install im now guessing its probably damaged at the bottom as you can rotate the screen and use the d-pad to navigate and press.
