Text arrive alert sound won't play, why?

Hi,

Even though a sound is chosen to alert when text arrives, it does not play when a text comes. There is no other problem with any of the sounds or functions.
It has just been given a new SIM card but I don't think that should make any difference.

Re-check your message alert and ring volume settings.Also check that the message alert actually plays and that silent mode is off.

I had checked before contacting the forum, that the ring tone will play, that it is selected, that the mobile is not set to silent mode and that the volume is set at maximum. The mobile rings when a call is made to it. It receives texts but does not play the alert sound.

Then perhaps a software update may solve the problem.

While I await the cable with which to attempt an update, a text message from o2 arrived, heralded by the chosen alert sound. It seems that texts from the provider will make the sound play but not texts from other mobiles. Curiouser and curiouser.

Thats really strange. An update should fix the problem when you get your USB cable.
