I'm completely unable to access the internet through my phone. Every application that needs the internet (browser, PlayNow, Track ID) fails to load altogether or tells me to adjust my profile settings, and promptly freezes the phone altogether. When I go to Settings>Connectivity>Internet Settings>Internet profiles and press select it asks me to Activate but when I OK it nothing happens. I can see nowhere to enter my wifi key or set up a mobile internet account. I am with O2 and have texted 2020 to receive settings and installed them, twice now, to no avail. I haven't updated the software as I don't have a suitable USB cable.
Can anyone explain what is going wrong?

1) Follow this link for info on how to enter the mobile internet settings in your phone. If O2 have sent these to your phone by sms, the O2 data account should be under the "Connect using" setting, which you need to select and save.If it's not there, contact O2 and ask for manual settings, either over the phone or through their website.
2) Unfortunately, your phone does not have wifi connectivity, so you need to use the mobile network to access the internet.
3) Your phone does have a Remote update service (Settings--General--Update service--Search for update) which allows a new software version to be downloaded directly to your phone over the air.In order to use it, however, you need to have a working internet connection.Otherwise, if you want to re-install the phone's software with the SE update service on your PC, you need to get a USB cable.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid I am still none the wiser. The link you've provided tells me to go to
Select Internet settings > Internet profiles > Connect using > Add.
But there is no "Connect Using" on the menu. When I click on "Internet profiles" all it says is "Activate" with the only option to "OK" it. When I press "OK" it goes back to just saying "internet profiles" with nothing having changed and no option to input any settings. Could you clarify if having no "connect using" screen on the phone is an issue with the Spiro, or with the settings from O2? I can't really get a handle on what the problem is.
I admit I just assumed that everything is wifi these days, but that's my mistake. Mobile internet is probably more useful anyway. I've just ordered a USB too, irritatingly I seem to have dozens of non-micro USB cables but isn't that always the way!
http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref(User):str(Mobile) If you follow this link, you will find a Mobile Settings box in which you can enter your mobile number to get the settings sent directly to your phone, which you then should be able to save.
According to your manual, you should have a "Connect using" option under: Main menu--Settings--Connectivity--Internet settings--Internet profiles--Connect using--if you select this, you should see a list of data accounts. If it's not there, this might be because your phone is O2-branded or there is a software problem.
Just took a punt on doing a "Master reset" and it seems to have solved the issue regarding not having a "connect using" option. It's appeared as if by magic, when the phone came back on! Looks like a fault with the software afterall, but fingers crossed it'll stay stable now. Following the instructions you posted it's now working. Thanks for the helpful replies.
