i cannot send or recive texts and am now stuck as what to do!

shut down... pull off the sim.. leave it for a couple of min.. and then boot up the phone... or run an repair on SE Companion

Sounds like you dont have the correct settings for your carrier.  Try giving them a call and checking the settings out.

Contact your service provider and get the correct SMS Center number. After this enter it at Settings> Wireless Controls> Mobile Networks> SMS Center

have put in service centre number and no good thanks everyone will go to the shop and see if they can sort it out!

I  could not send SMS when I had updated to 2.1 but I found out that when  you write a contact person then you have saved contacts as phone contact  no email contact. And when you want to  send to someone who is more options to choose from the info about your contact and you must remember  to tap the phone otherwise it tries to send as mms
