Send button greyed out on texts. XPERIA E5

I cannot send any texts from my phone. I can enter the phone number and message but the send text button arrow is greyed out and does not work. I have shut down and restarted a couple of times but no luck. I can send calls OK. Any ideas. Please don't  say factory  reset as I've had to do two in the last three months for other issues

which messaging app are you using?

The standard app supplied with the phone. I've just done another restart and it's working now thanks.  I've had nothing but trouble with the thing. One fault  after another

Thanks. I'll give it a go tomorrow. There's definitely something wrong with it as the camera and video buttons only work intermittently as well and it failed on the camera button test

Then the issue could be hardware related.

Sorry to hear about the issues you have, let's see if we can help.

Although there is a possibility that this is hardware, it would be a good idea to backup and then run a software repair on the device using Xperia Companion ( you only mentioned a reset)

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately my PC doesn't recognise the phone using the Campanion so if I factory reset or send it off I lose everything again

Do you have another PC you can use, maybe a friend or family members you could try?

You may be able to backup content from within the device, have you checked to see if the device has a backup application?

Hi

My spare desktop PC will connect but the backup  continually stalls partway through and then fails. I've tried backing up one section at a time as well instead of everything and that also fails partway through.

So far, the only way to get stuff off the phone is to email photos or back up to Google Drive. Is there any way I can get my contacts / text messages etc off other than using the companion?

I am very reluctant to send it off and lose everything again. This phone is now becoming a nightmare to deal with and the volume has now gone today and I can hardly hear anything on it. Fed up now
