Rooting my Go

Going to attempt rooting my phone but I'm a complete noob

I have android 4.0.4  build no. 6.1.1. B.1.10

Going to follow this  guide

but it seems suspiciously simple. Don't want to brick the phone only to find out a step was left out because it was a "given" and wasn't mentioned. Been burned before.

An example is bootloaders. I've read you need to unblock your boot loader to flash a rom but I  looked at this guide to installing a rom and there's no mention of unlocking your boot loader.

I'm now trying to unblock bootloader

Stuck on step 15

Typing in "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version" I get a list of command options+descriptions not the response I should be getting. It's not recognizing "-i 0x0fce getvar version".

What are you trying to do 

1) unlocking the bootloader

or 

2) root your phone? 

unlocking the bootloader does NOT equal rooting
