Preparing SD Card

I bought a Xperia x8 yesterday when I turned it on this morning a status of preparing SD Card, checcking for errors appeared.  This has been ongoing for hours and the phone keeps restarting and locking up.  I have turned the phone on and off, taken the battery and the SD Card out and the problem just come back.  Anyone else had this problem? If so what is the solution?

Hi Funkymonkey1971, suggest adding another step, remove SD Card, wipe both the contact areas (if you have not done so).

If that still didn't resolve your issue, advise you to do a Factory data reset. This process will erase phone data (SD Card not affected), anything you need to backup since yesterday?
