Phone does not switch on when using disabled sim card

I would like to import my contacts from a disabled sim card (which is possible on older models, W800 to be exact).

But, the phone does not switch on.

Also, is there no way of checking SIM contacts without importing them?

It is not an older sim card, it is a disabled sim card.

The phone should switch on - with a sim card or without one. It is a smartphone after all.

Just out of curiosity, what is an old sim card?

I do not understand

By old sim I meant sim card with scratch and worn out. Anyway whether sim is old or not the phone should switch on. Do you face similar problems with an activated sim?

Now I do.

All of a sudden, my phone will not switch on with one of my "quite new" SIM card.

It was working this morning and I switched the phone off and now it will not start up with this particular card.

I did try switching on the phone with no SIM card and it worked. With another sim it also works.

But, now it refuses to start with the sim card I need.

I was able to switch it on using:

First starting Sony Update Service,  then After holding back key connecting phone and Green light switches on,

Update Service says Latest software installed. Close update service, open PC companion. Disconnect and reconnect phone to mini USB.

SE PC Companion 2.0

(as described in the post: http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/3671

My xperia x10 mini won't turn on!)

And, what is funny, when you connect it to the charger it

did not switch on either.

It is not acceptable that you have to use this crazy procedure just to switch on when it refuses to do so.

A fix is needed, as a lot of people have this problem.

And now it switches on with the disabled SIM card, but it says there are no Contacts
