Persistent Apps in the background

I know that with Android 2.2+, you don't have to end task manually since Android manages the memory management well. However, I still don't understand why some apps still run by itself when i don't even use them.

These apps are mainly:

- Digital Clock : i have 2 of them running all the time in the background and i'm not even using them. i'm using a diferent widget for clock.

- HDMI: i know what it's for but does it need to run even when nothing is plugged in?

- Media Server : i did not configure this. i know its pre-installed. but why is it running?

- Setup guide : this, is just a wonder. it does not even need have to run after the first time. why is it running in the backgroud?

i understand that all other system apps and widgets that i'm using needs to be in the background so that it's faster to load when i need to use them. but those apps i listed are not essential for everyday usage. geez, some does not even need to run at all. call me a control freak, but is there a way to disable them or prevent them from running in the first place?

I think the digital clocks are one for the lock screen and the other for alarm clock, the HDMI runs just in case but luckily eats only 1.3MB RAM as is probably the case with media server; setup guide is BS.

As much as people say that one doesn't need task manager with android I find it invaluable for killing these processes periodically. There is a great app called Fast Reboot that kills and restarts all the processes without actually powering the phone which frees up a LOT of memory. Things like setup guide and other crapware you know you won't ever use can be uninstalled with Titanium Backup.

i rooted my phone and decided to remove all these junks instead. hdmi, media server, clock 1.0, user guide. basically, SE prinstalled apps. i use titanium backup, so if i ever ever ever need it, i can restore them later. for the time being, i can sleep peacefully knowing that no unnecessary junks is running at the background. lol
