PC Companion behind proxy

Hi.

Is it possible to configure PC Companion for use behind a proxy?

Sorry that I reply on my own post, I hope I don't break any rules, but I wanted to make an addendum.

I had a tough time using pc companion at work, since they use a proxy (don't know which type).

I guess I'm not the only one with this configuration. Or am I?

I would really like to hear if and how YOU made it work.

Installation went fine, but I can't use any of the applets "inside". I get an error message similar to "connection to the Internet is unavailable", each time I try to start anything in pc companion.

The solution is of course to hook the computer to a direct connection, without a proxy, and what better way to do that than using my phone?

But when the pc companion applet "connect to internet" doesn't work without a connection to the internet, I'm a bit stuck.

Didn't you guys at Sony Ericsson think about this scenario?

It would be a "nice" feature to be able to install pc companion from a cd and then connect to the internet with my phone...

I have raised the same concerns to Sony Ericsson and they sent me these responses back in June:

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.

Unfortunately if you are using a proxy server on your works PC then  you will not be able to use the features of PC Companion as this is  linked with the Sony Ericsson website and there are no settings in this  program to enter Proxy Settings.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

This software design so far and no can fill in the option of agent visit, but there is a flexible method is your computer directly use the proxy visit, so naturally this software can indirectly USES proxy.

After enter the proxy address directly in the "Internet explore" network settings I try to connect to PC COMPANION

The soft show a first proxy identification windows and I enter my ident/pass : the PC COMPANIOn show the SONY advertissements

When I try to launch one service I have this following message : "Impossible to launch this service. Please retry" or something like this :

See below the log file :

In bold, you can see a "407 error" : this is a proxy identification code error !!!

Can you help me ? I must use the synchro for my job and since PC COMPANION this is impossible !!!

My phone config : CEDAR

I am sure now that PC COMPANION cannot work through a proxy configuration.

I have found this application "MY PHONEEXPLORER" who make the same things than PC COMPANION, and work without network connexion.

I got the same problem, the PC suite worked before on my work computer but than it forced me to upgrade to the PC companion SW and that's it, no more phone sync or nothing.

WTF sony? why make life hard on people.

This is my last sony-e phone.

PC Companion could not update, probably because of the proxy.

I just opened Internet Explorer, went to the network settings and added some information about the proxy in "automatic configuration file". I guess that if you enter the IP and port of the proxy it will also work. You just need to get those (IP and port).

I think PC Companion tries to connect using Internet Explorer connection and that a "auto detection" is not enough for him.
