Noise in background when making or taking calls

I have had my Sony Xperia SP for just over a week and whilst the phone is easy to use every call i make or take has high volume background noise and all people are complaining they cannot hear me - so the phone is useless as a phone!! has anyone experienced this??

Have you tried with 'microphone noise suppression' turned on and off to see if you experience any difference? You'll find it under settings > call settings. 

If you don't notice any difference I suggest that you repair the phone software using PC Companion:

In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phones software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone".
