Network problem in Sony xperia tipo

I am having a funny problem with my sony xperia tipo

My phone is updated to android 4.0.4

The problem is that my phone sometimes shows no bars i the network status.

When I try to make a call I get the message " Not connected to Network"

The phone some times shows all the 4 bars in the network status but no one can call me nor i can make a phone call.

So basically the phone can be used if  I have 1 to 3 bars in the network status. If my phone shows 1 or 4 bars in the network, I can not receive or make calls or sms

I changed the SIM card last week but I still have the same problem.

Please let me know how to solve the problem

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

FIrst of all I would suggest that you try to change the network mode on your phone to see if you experience any difference between the different network modes. Go to settings > more > mobile network > network mode. 

If you still experience the same behavior in the network I suggest that you check with your operator if they have had any problems with the network. 

You can also try to update/repair the phone software using PC Companion: 

http://www.sonymobile.com/update

In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phones software.

I have tried to change the network mode but my phone is having the same problem.

My phone is already updated to Android 4.0.4 which is the latest update from Sony for Xperia Tipo.

Sony should give update to Android 4.1 or atleast Android 4.0.5 since the hardware is compatible for both versions.

Can you tell me what data will I lose if I repair the phone?

Can you please tell me whether it looks like a software or hardware problem.

If you repair,you will lose all phone memory(it will be completely erased).You can backup your most important data.

I have factory reset my phone as recemmended.But my android version still shows 4.0.4 ( Originally my phone was shipped with android 4.0.3)

My phone used to work perfectly fine with android 4.0.3  before I updated to 4.0.4 last July

My phone still has the same problem after factory reset.

I got information from the internet that Sony is not going to update xperia tipo to Android 4.1(Jelly Bean)

Atleast they must update the phone tp Android 4.0.5

What should I do next?

I do not think tipo will get any more updates.You were told to repair your software,not to reset to factory settings.You should have downloaded sony update service and repaired your phone:
