I recently went through a process recommended by Sony Support to download latest software update to my X10 (depite the fact that the inbuilt update process repeatedly informed me I had the latest software.) Now when i use the inbuilt procedure od SETTINGS/About Phone/Software update/ Update Now (with the WiFi & mobile networks setting selected) my X10 helpfully tells me "your phone will now search to see if any new sofware is available". After a few seconds it then informs me "Could not update - network error". Anyone know how to fix this?
I am getting really cheesed off with Sony - regrettably I am on a 24 month contract so cannot change handset.
Hi,
When you did the update, it likely deleted your internet settings in the phone. Some operators offer two internet profiles, one for WAP (mobile internet) and one for full internet access.
Depending on your operator, you may need to have both accounts setup so you can access the update service.
Did you try Wi-fi Only, and connect to a open/unsecured router? Did you get the same message? Let me know.
Thank you for your response. I am not at all "savvy" as regards these things but are you talking about the APNs available on my phone? These are:-
O2 Pay & Go;
O2 MobileWeb; and
O2 Pay Monthly.
The setting that was selected when I was getting the "Network error" result was O2 Pay Monthly. I have now changed to O2 MobileWeb and lo and behold the update procedure is able to finish and it says my X10 has the latest software.
Using WiFi only at home is also successful when updating at home.
Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction.
Kind Regards
Michael
Hi Jeff. I too am facing similar problem. Whenever I try to update it over Wi-Fi or GPRS, I get this error message. It worked fine before R2BA023 update. IAfter R2BA023, it stopped working. I updated later it to R2BA026, but the problem persists. Also when I try to access the playnow service, it gives me the same error message. The internet works fine for rest of the things.
