My email doesn't update itself - x10 mini pro

I posted this in the main community but since the mini and the regular x10 are more different than I thought, I decided to try my luck here. This is what I wrote:

I just got my Xperia x10 mini pro today and so far I have noticed that my email doesn't update itself, I have to do it manually but it seems like the phone should be able to do that. I use a hotmail account on my phone and I would like to know if the email can update itself, if I have to wait for 2.1 to have this problem resolved or if it's just something that I'm missing. And sometimes the phone will say "Does not connect" when I do try to update it but it hasn't done it in the last few hours. In addition, there isn't any change in my real email account. I could read an email on my phone and still half an hour later that very same email will be considered new and unread. Is there any way to solve these issues?

The stock email application doesn't automatically check for emails. Try this: Go to the market and download K9 Mail. It's a really good email application that will sort out the issues you are having.

I have and it's awful. My god it didn't work and still had the same issues where I had to delete on phone and then on computer. At least the stock email could tell when I was getting a new email, however. I sent out a test email and while my stock app picked it up, K-9 still didn't notice but checked consistently! That's even worse! I just want something like the email I had on my Windows Mobile phone (yep, well aware Windows runs hotmail but still, great service).
