Is it possible to save contacts from phone to SIM card??

Open phonebook, press menu (left key) - export/import - export to sim

This might not copy all numbers from every contact, depending on sim card type, I can copy 2 numbers per contact.

what you can also do is to download an app called contacts2sim from the android market. This will help you to to achieve this.

When I try this I have option to import SIM contacts not export them - is there another way?

I've downloaded this but only get the error message "Cannot access SIM card Please make sure that a SIM card is inserted and ready" There is a SIM card in my phone it wouldn't work without one would it? Help?!

Have you updated your phone to Android 2.1?

You should be able to do this just as Pasi71 wrote (thanks!). However this was not possible in the very first software versions available for Xperia X10 mini/pro.
